I’m deep in the middle of some larger projects right now, but yesterday someone said something that reminded me of an article I wrote for Success Magazine five years ago. I went back and read the piece, expecting to cringe at my naïveté and poor writing.
But, surprisingly, the opposite happened. I’m not usually one to like my old articles, but this one stood out. It’s an exploration of the Icelandic phrase þetta reddast (pronounced “the-tta red-ust”), which roughly translates to “everything will work out.”
At first glance, it sounds like something someone who has lived a charmed life free from pain would say. But a deeper look at it reveals it’s the opposite. I encourage you to read this piece and let me know your thoughts.
I wrote the piece in early 2020, before the pandemic hit, before my first kid was born, before…everything. Yet, the truth of þetta reddast was never more apparent than what happened that year and in the five years since.
I send this from Chattanooga, TN, a town I knew nothing about even one year ago today. I don’t know what the next year holds, but I do know it will all work out.
